Te Tahawai Marae
We were at school going to Te Tahawai marae.
We jumped on the bus and we practiced the Mo maria song and we didn't even noticed that we were there already.
As we got off the bus we walked slowly into the marae, the girls were in front to do the karanga and the boys were at the back. A Lady was standing next to the marae and saying “welcome!” in maori. Then Mrs. Driver said “Hai re mai” in maori.
We had to take off our shoes because the marae was a sacred place and our shoes were dirty. Then we made a swap, the boys went to the front to sit, then the girls went to the back. A boy from our class got up and made a thank you speech and gave the 3 ladies a koru drawing.
After that we did the hongi. That is when we touch nose and forehead. Next we went to wash our hands the boys were lucky because there were loads of girls in the toilet. Then went to the Whare Kai, that is when we eat food at the kitchen.Next we do activities, first we do a drawing of the ancestors from New Zealand. The next activity was in the kitchen we did the poi and song dance and we did koru drawings.

It was time for us to say goodbye. We said thank you and went outside to put our shoes on and walked back to the bus.
I loved the The koru patterns and everything in the marae!
